Dutch Apple Cake is a very dense cake.
3 c. green apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1 c. plus 3 tbsp. sugar, divided 1 tsp. cinnamon 2/3 c. butter, softened 4 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. flour 1/8 tsp. salt cinnamon/sugar mix to sprinkle on top before baking
In a large bowl combine apple slices, 3 tbsp. sugar and cinnamon. Toss to coat and set aside.
In another bowl cream together butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat well after each, then add vanilla.
Combine flour and salt and gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir until smooth.
Pour half of the batter into a 9 x 5 loaf pan, then add a layer of the cinnamon sugar covered apples and repeat layers.
Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and sugar before baking. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until a knife comes out clean.
