Safety at Home
Until an accident happens, sometimes we don’t think about risks of injury that could happen in our own home ora family member's home. However, there are several common dangers in every home.
Here is a list to help eliminate your risk for injury and to prolong your health and independence:
1. Use a pill organizer to keep track of daily medications, or keep a daily pill journal. This will prevent taking your prescription more than once a day or not taking it at all.
2. Remove throw rugs from walkways. Always pick your feet up when walking. Many, many accidents happen because someone trips over a throw rug.
3. Use a cooking timer, especially if you leave the kitchen while the stove/oven is on.
4. Keep all flammable items away from the stove/oven, including shirt sleeves and towels.
5. Place frequently used items within easy reach by rearranging shelves and counters. This eliminates falling from the use of achair or stool or an unstable object.
6. Take your time getting in or out of the tub or shower. Use a non-skid bath mat. Even a bath chair is a help.
