Diabetes Symptoms One of our Caregivers was concerned about a client and the symptoms the client was exhibiting. After speaking with the family, they decided an doctor's visit was necessary as the Caregiver suspected Diabetes. After waiting anxiously for test results, the answer came back, yes, she had Diabetes. Unfortunately, many of our client's that we provide senior care services to have Diabetes, fortunately most of them have type 2 Diabetes. If you have to be stricken with Diabetes, it's better to have type 2 (although having neither would be preferable). In type 1 Diabetes, the body does not make any insulin, as compared to type 2 where the body does make some insulin. Although symptoms for Type 2 Diabetes are rare, in type 1 Diabetes the symptoms are many. Here are some of the symptoms for Type 1 Diabetes: - Increase in thirst and appetite
- Increase in urination
- Nauseau and/or vomiting
- Blurry vision
- Atypical weight gain and/or weight loss
- Cuts that take a long time to heal
- Cotton mouth or dry mouth
- Overly tired
- Excessive itching in either the vaginal or groin area
- Yeast or vaginal infections
Call your doctor immediately if you are making frequent trips to the bathroom, at least once an hour, you have cramping or abdominal pain, are nauseous, weak and excessively thirsty. Diabetes does not go away, you must see a doctor or your health problems will only get worse.
