Dog Parks and Daycare are wonderful things. When run well they provide socialization, exercise, and friendship for your canine. Not every dog will enjoy being with other dogs. Much like every person does not enjoy going to organized functions. If your dog is not excited when they discover where you are they might not enjoy the outing. Some dogs prefer being around people to other dogs. Some dogs do well in small groups. Pay close attention to the body language of the dog. If the dog is stressed, it maybe best to forgo these activities. A properly supervised daycare will have one person for every 8-10 dogs. Their only job is to watch the dogs! They will interact with the dogs and make sure play does not get too rough. Dog Parks are wonderful areas to let your dog off leash and let them run around. But you must watch your dog at all times. Call your dog back to you several times, just to check in, and then release. Not only is this a measure to keep in communication with your dog but also to prevent the "deaf ears" when it is time to go home. That is when you call your dog back to you and you get totally ignored because the dog knows I have to go home when she catches me.
Sometimes a good old walk with you and your dog are the best! Enjoy the warmer weather and get outside.
