Justice is supposed to be blind, that doesn't mean you have to be. Least of all when you're contemplating marriage.
These days, if you get married without a prenuptial agreement, you don't need a lawyer, your need a psychiatrist.
Love can make you crazy, all right, but as I always tell my clients, true love can survive a little practical thinking. The best time to agree and disagree is when there's a smile on your face and love in your heart.
In its most simple form, a prenuptial agreement is a contract in which prospective spouses agree to handle certain aspects of marriage - and divorce - in specified ways. Prenuptials are not recognized in every State; in a State where they are, an agreement may contain any clause that is not illegal or against public policy.
Not surprisingly, these negotiations almost always involve money. In a common scenario, the signers are getting married for the second time, each has children from the first marriage, and each wants to make sure those children are financially protected. However, more and more first time spouses are walking into my office seeking prenuptial representation.
