Safety tips for a safe Trick or Treat Please be aware when your children are trick or treating that it can be a stressful time for any pet. If your pet shows any signs of stress with all the commotion of trick or treating or parties please provide a quiet place where the pet may relax away from the activities. This may be in his crate or in a bedroom with the door closed. It is also a good idea to provide the pet with something to entertain him. It would be a great time for a stuffed Kong or a new toy. I like to mix a little of my dogs kibble with some canned pumpkin and fill the Kong. A little peanut butter on top of the opening in the Kong and throw in the freezer for a couple hours. This will freeze the ingredients and prolong the time it takes the dog to get all the ingredients out. Please be sure your dog is familiar with the food items you place in your Kong, we do not want any upset tummies! A radio or television on in the room may also block some of the noise from outside of the room. Children need to remember that a dog may not recognize you in a costume. You need to stand very still when the dog approaches you. The dog probably wants to sniff you and see if he knows you. If you approach a house and the dog is in the doorway, be quiet, and do not turn and leave the porch until the homeowner has closed the door. This will prevent the dog from chasing you. It is probably a good idea not to approach a house with a barking dog in the yard.
