1st Fridays anyone? New Centreville event planning group to meet Tuesday, January 26
A new event planning group is forming to create new community events in Centreville. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Queen Anne’s County Library, Centreville Branch conference room. The meeting is open to the public. All residents, and stakeholders from businesses, non-profit organizations, schools and civic groups are invited.
This work is part of an overall strategy to create more activity throughout the town for both residents to enjoy as well as visitors. Ideas such as “First Fridays” events which usually include business promotions as well as entertainment, will be considered as well as other ideas. Farm to table events, an outdoor movie series and holiday focused events are just some of the initial event concepts. Event ideas will be generated from the group.
“Our Centreville Day Steering Committee is a great example of grassroots event organizing. The group is composed of a wide cross section of people interested in hosting a high quality event for families,” says Carol D’Agostino, Centreville Main Street manager. “Each person comes to our meetings with a different passion for a particular event feature. We make decisions as a group, but each person is empowered to develop and execute their own part of the event. This new group will be facilitated in the same way. I think creativity flows much better when everyone has a leadership role in the brainstorming as well as the execution,” she adds.
If you are a resident, business or non-profit who would like to get involved, contact Carol D’Agostino at (410) 758-1180, ext. 17 or mainstreet@townofcentreville.org.
