Back in 2009 the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) prioritized funding for septic system upgrades targeting those systems that pose the greatest threat to clean waterways and drinking water. Effective January 1, 2010, MDE also established an income-based sliding scale to ensure septic upgrade grants are fairly distributed to homeowners with the most need. The original household income threshold was originally set at $139,000 to qualify for 100% state xxistance. Now, that threshold has been increased to $300,000.
