The Ten Signs of Alzheimer's What's the difference between senility and Alzheimer's you ask? Many times we just to the conclusion that a loved one must have Alzheimer's, forgetting senility affects all of us as we grow older. Here are some signs to know if your loved on is affected with Alzheimer's: 1. Memory loss that disrupts daily living. 2. Challenges in planning and solving problems. 3. Confusion with where they are or what time period it is. For example, a client of ours sometimes thinks starts packing for her big trip - a trip she took 20 years ago. 4. Difficulty completing familiar tasks at home, work or leisure. 5. Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships. For example, we had a client who, at times, couldn't read, the letters were "shaped wrong." 6. New problems with words in speaking and writing. 7. Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps. 8. Decreased or poor judgment. 9. Withdrawal from work, friends or social situations. 10. Changes in mood or personality. These are definite signs of Alzheimer's and not senility. If you recognize any of the signs and your loved one hasn't been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I would make a doctor's appointment. www.YourHomeCompanion.comThanks to the Alzheimer's Association.
