Tips For Hosting a Champagne Tasting Champagne tastings are always a hit because of the many varietals available on the market. The first step to host a Champagne tasting is to know what you’re serving. The word “Champagne” is actually a region in France where sparkling wine originated. Technically if the Champagne you’re drinking is not from this region it is called “sparkling wine.” Next you need to choose what Champagne (or sparkling wines) to feature. My advice is to look for a younger Champagne that is light in color and an older Champagne that has a more golden hue (plus anything in between). Once you have your selection and are ready to entertain, pour about an ounce of bubbly in a Champagne flute and have your guest taste it like they would taste wine: swirl, smell, slurp, and swallow. After tasting, have an open discussion of what each guest experienced.
