Hello. I have a jet ski trailer that I need to get a duplicate title for. It is still in the original owners name who now lives in another state. What do I need to be able to get the duplicate title here in Maryland? thanks

Re: Jet Ski trailer title. You can either drop by our office for an application for a duplicate trailer title or you can print one from the Maryland MVA website: www.mva.maryland.gov/_resources/docs/VR-018_12-13.pdf (Form #VR-018) can be used to apply for a duplicate title for a vehicle. This form must be filled out and can be brought in person to your local full service MVA office or mailed to the Motor Vehicle Administration, 6601 Ritchie Highway, N.E., Glen Burnie, MD 21062, Attn: Title File, Room 104. You'll have to send the form to the former owner for completion and signature then ask for his/her written power of attorney to execute the duplicate title once it is obtained. Once you have everything in order select an MVA Title Agent to go to the MVA to get the duplicate in hand so that you can proceed with titling the trailer in your name, having the trailer inspected and get a license plate. If you have all of the former owners present address and telephone information you could also use an MVA agent from the onset, to help with the forms that will allow you to obtain a duplicate title and then legally transfer of ownership to you. Why didn't you get the completed title when you bought the trailer? Do you have a bill of sale that specifies the details about the trailer? That is, year, make, model and vehicle identification number? Did it have a license plate on it when you bought it? As you know, without a valid title transferred to you, you will be unable to title the trailer and, therefore, unable to register it and get license plates. I hope this was helpful and good luck with it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I did not buy the trailer. I am selling it for a friend who purchased it new in 2004. I have a copy of the original bill of sale from the dealer with all the details. At one point years ago it was tagged. I will print the form and have them fill it out for the duplicate title. Thanks again for the information.
